Job Description Summary

The LM2500 is an industrial and marine variant of the aircraft engine CF6-80C2 that has been modified for to power oil & gas and electrical applications. This role is for a first line manager (Manager of individual contributors) in LM2500 Life Cycle Engineering reporting to an Engineering Section Leader. In this role, the Sub-Section Manager (SSM) will be responsible for building and leading a team of engineers with various levels of experience to own all engineering tasks associated with the high pressure compressor module of LM2500 engine. Example tasks for the team are: Field problem resolutions, safety issues, New Product Introduction (NPI), departure records, repairs, cost outs, identifying and executing strategic engineering technology initiatives to prepare next generation products. In this role you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals and contribute to overall business strategy. The SSM is responsible for talent development including staffing, mentoring and coaching of their team, planning of succession pipeline, performance evaluations and guidance on career planning. The SSM is responsible for the daily management, project execution & management and strategy development of a team of design, repair and/or fleet management engineers.

Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • MSc/BSc in Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Experience in a relevant engineering role.

  • Experience in leading teams of indirect reports.

  • Ability to effectively lead and mentor the team while increasing his/her own technical capability. Continuously develops self and passionate about developing others.

  • Has a good understanding of “Leadership” and ready to act as a role model by demonstrating high standard of work ethics and dedication.

  • Ability to manage ambiguity, conflict, and uncertainty within the team.

  • Excellent communication skills with both external and internal customers.

  • Ability to connect effectively with a broad group of stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Provide leadership and technical direction for assigned program tasks and personnel.

  • Establish work group goals within framework of technical and financial objectives.

  • Leads the Lean implementation, uses Lean to improve operational performance and KPIs

  • Coordinate and participate in Technical Reviews for sub-section’s projects. Lead and conduct major technical projects. Demonstrates autonomous Project Management skills with the ability to plan, communicate, market, execute, control, document and close tasks, projects, programs

  • Distribute projects among members and ensure that the priorities are clearly defined and understood. Be accountable for the right management and execution of projects/activities developed in his/her sub-section.

  • Facilitate communication of technical and business information between organizations and within work group.

  • Communicate with management on technical, organizational, resource and personnel issues.
