The Business Innovation and Support (BIS) section has been established to drive business modernization and efficiency across UNICEF. The BIS section supports staff globally and works closely with all HQ Divisions, regional and country offices for simplification and automation of processes applying Lean principles and project management methodologies. It combines business experience, technical skills and project management, distributed around four streams: Customer Care, Process Optimization and Automation, Business Systems and Integration, Data Analytics, Project Management Office. The close collaboration between these five pillars contributes to the achievement of GSSC’s mission.
How can you make a difference?
Working closely with other units in the organization the consultant will mainly augment the capacity for the Advanced Business Application Programming (ABAP) development team in the Information and Communication Technology Division (ICTD) in Valencia for work items related to GSSC processes, providing coverage for technical development work currently under-resourced within the Section to ensure the efficient delivery of critical BIS workplan priorities. The primary focus of the work will be on GSSC projects that drive business modernization and efficiency across UNICEF.
Scope of Work:
- Contribute to UNICEF Change Projects: Design, develop, and support object services and workflows to facilitate projects.
- Develop and Maintain Programs: Develop and maintain programs, reports, and applications using ABAP, SAP UI5/Fiori, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, and OData required during mobile apps development.
- Implement SAP Fiori Applications: Develop, test, debug, and implement SAP Fiori applications related to HR/Payroll/Finance processes.
- Support and Troubleshoot: Support and troubleshoot issues in programs, interfaces, applications, and reports in the SAP ERP system.
- Prepare Technical Specifications: Prepare technical specifications for solutions and document all completed solutions per established standards.
- Participate in Roadmap Activities: Participate in roadmap activities, assess emerging technologies, and contribute ideas to improve the utilization of SAP and other systems.
- Maintain Master Data Records: Provide ongoing support in maintaining master data records in SAP and develop automated tools to simplify table uploads.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or other relevant disciplines
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in business process analysis, software design, and development is required.
- Functional knowledge of two of the SAP modules: FI, MDM, HR or Payroll is required
- Experience solutioning in SAP-ABAP, WorkFlow, FIORI, and using JavaScript and WinShuttle
- Knowledge of ServiceNow platform is an asset
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Fluency in English (both verbal and written) is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Consultants are responsible to make their own arrangements for resources (like laptop, internet, and other requirements) needed to perform the tasks required under this consultancy under remote work. In case of sessions to be held within the GSSC premises, UNICEF can provide the necessary equipment.
Individuals engaged under a consultancy will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants. Consultants are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. The selected consultant is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract.
Selected consultant are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. The vaccine mandate, does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
