The Portland Press Herald in Maine, part of the nonprofit National Trust for Local News, seeks a top-notch journalist to cover breaking news at night. We are an ambitious news organization with high standards, and we need a self-motivated reporter who can work efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision.

This is an important position and a great opportunity for the right person. You’ll cover lots of breaking news on a variety of topics, and you’ll have opportunities to work on bigger stories. Speed, accuracy and versatility are paramount: When news occurs, you’ll need to get it posted to the web fast – and get it right. Some nights this can be a hectic, stressful job. On slower nights, you’ll have the opportunity to work on enterprise stories.

Successful candidates will have daily news experience and be able to submit clips that demonstrate proficiency covering breaking news and crystal-clear writing. You also must be comfortable in a digital-first environment.

If you are the best at what you do and share our passion for ambitious journalism, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. You will be part of Maine’s finest and largest newsgathering operation, work for a thriving nonprofit news organization, and live in a region with an extraordinarily high quality of life. Send your resume and examples of your work to Executive Editor Steve Greenlee at [email protected].

We offer:
