*** FULLY REMOTE POSITION – unique Monday – Friday, 3pm – Midnight schedule ***

 

This position is fully remote, and can be located anywhere within the geographic footprint of Forum Communications Company’s print and/or digital markets – Dickinson, Jamestown, Fargo, or Grand Forks, ND; Mitchell or Sioux Falls, SD; Detroit Lakes, Perham, Wadena, Alexandria, Willmar, Worthington, Rochester, St. Cloud, Brainerd, Park Rapids, Pequot Lakes, Cloquet, Duluth, or Bemidji, MN; Superior, WI or the surrounding area!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design and manage content across its life cycle for multiple publications and platforms.
  • Work primarily in Adobe InDesign, with some work in Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Create engaging and creative pages that meet print specifications and appeal to our readers. 
  • Layout and design for various sections of the daily and weekly newspapers, including selecting art and graphics, toning photos, and formatting copy to fit in a designated space. 
  • Edit incoming copy for style, accuracy, and suitability for print editions.
  • Select and prepare regional, national, and special interest content for publication.
  • Review final proofs and making necessary changes. 
  • Determine best usage of content for publication, including designing to showcase content, create graphics, and other visual elements.
  • Manage sharing of content between publications to facilitate timely story flow and distribution of news, features, and sports content.
  • Manage copy flow, including breaking news.
  • Curate advanced and specialty content for use in multiple publications.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least three years editing and/or design experience either for a newspaper or news wire service is preferred, along with a degree in communications or a related field. Strong knowledge of newspaper editing and style is a must.
  • Experience in Adobe InDesign; Photoshop and/or Illustrator experience preferred.
  • Ability to achieve proficiency with a variety of PC-based applications, including Google Drive and related programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members who work remotely, and work and make decisions independently.
  • Ability to consistently perform on deadline and to prioritize tasks and duties.
  • Ability to work occasional holidays as necessary.
