Position description

Hiring pay range: $90,000 – $132,000 annual, dependent on prior experience, education, and level hired (PO vs SPO). This position is eligible for health insurance benefits.

The Nuclear Threat Initiative is seeking a Program Officer (PO) or Senior Program Officer (SPO) (title to be determined based on candidate experience) to join the Global Nuclear Policy Program (GNPP) team. This position reports to the Vice President for GNPP. This is a full-time hybrid position, working a minimum of three days a week in our Washington, DC office. 

 

NTI is a nonpartisan non-profit whose mission is to transform global security by driving systemic solutions to nuclear and biological threats imperiling humanity.

This selected candidate will assist in leading, implementing, and coordinating GNPP programs and projects. This will include:

• Developing and implementing activities related to reducing global nuclear risks, preventing proliferation, reducing reliance on nuclear weapons and preventing their spread and use. 

• Contributing to NTI efforts to design and promote a blueprint for a sustainable nuclear security system without nuclear weapons, including verifiable monitoring. 

• Conducting congressional outreach and engagement on nuclear policy issues. 

• Tracking policy developments and activities of governments and organizations relevant to the work of the GNPP and congressional programs. 

• Planning and implementing GNPP program activities, including establishing milestones and mitigating project risks, as well as other project management tasks.

• Planning and participating in NTI-hosted domestic and international meetings and events and representing NTI at professional conferences and international diplomatic meetings.

• Assisting with preparation and management of grant proposals and reports.

• Supporting programmatic/cross-programmatic efforts to ensure the achievement of NTI objectives.

• Providing support to other NTI projects, as needed.

 

What are the requirements for the position?  Preferred candidates will have:

• A bachelors’ degree, masters preferred, in a relevant field (e.g., international relations/affairs, regional studies, political science, physics, or a related field) and

• At least 3-6 years of related experience, in an international organization, government, U.S. Congress, non-profit, or private sector.

• You can demonstrate tangible examples of how you have helped advance policies and ideas related to nuclear risk reduction, arms control, disarmament, and nonproliferation. 

• You have knowledge of U.S., Russian, and/ or Chinese nuclear policies, postures, and arms control; and Euro-Atlantic or Asia-Pacific regional security issues.   

• You have experience engaging international and domestic stakeholders to drive toward actionable policy outcomes.

• You have experience interacting with the U.S. congress and legislative process. 

• You have strong analytic, research, written and oral communication skills.

• You have demonstrated capacity to think creatively and develop and execute new, innovative projects and you can juggle multiple projects with competing deadlines.

• You have strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
