Description:

Homepros is an early-stage digital media startup covering the multi-billion-dollar U.S. HVAC and plumbing industries, with a focus on the residential and light commercial segments. We publish business news, analysis, and commentary online and via email newsletters, four days a week, to an audience of contracting business owners, executives, and managers across the U.S.

While the home service industries, including those beyond HVAC and plumbing — roofing, pest control, garage doors, etc, which we plan to expand to — are massive and durable, they’re also dynamic, facing the impact of technology, including artificial intelligence, government regulation, and consolidation, driving the need for local operators to stay up to speed with efficient, hyper-relevant news coverage.

As part of our company’s expansion — following triple-digit year-over-year growth in both our audience and revenue in 2025 — we’re seeking an entrepreneurial journalist to join our team. 

In this role, you will:

• Identify and write news stories
• Conduct and publish interviews with industry executives
• Conduct research and produce in-depth, original stories and analysis
• Author and publish our email newsletters
• Aggregate relevant stories from around the web to include in our newsletters
• Develop and engage a source network of industry professionals to fuel news coverage
• Travel to industry events and chase down scoops to break stories before other outlets

We’re looking for someone who:

• Wants to be a part of and play a key role in growing an early-stage startup
• Thrives in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment and can be flexible with hours when news breaks or opportunities arise
• Can write clean, concise, accurate copy on a deadline, and has excellent news judgment and a keen eye for detail
• Has at least one year of business news reporting experience, ideally covering a specific industry — in the written form, not broadcast television 
• Is based in the Charlotte, NC, area (strongly preferred)
• Most importantly, wants to work hard and win

Note: No prior experience covering the home service industries is required. We’re looking for someone who learns quickly, and we’ll help you get up to speed.

Compensation:

• Salary: $65,000 – $80,000
• Stock options
• 401K
• 21 days of paid, combined time off
