Housing and real estate reporter in Richmond, Virginia

 

The Richmond Times-Dispatch is hiring a housing/real estate
reporter to cover market trends, new developments and housing affordability in
our region.

 

Richmond was recently named one of the top housing markets
for 2025 by Realtor.com,
and we’re looking for an aggressive and entrepreneurial reporter who loves to
break news and produce engaging stories.

 

The reporter will follow major industry trends, local
leaders and companies in the real estate market, as well as analyze data and
interview industry experts. This reporter will write breaking news as well as
in-depth feature stories on how individuals in the region are affected by
housing issues. We’re looking for a self-starter who can localize  trends
and write everything from profiles on the local rental market to hard-hitting
long-form enterprise projects. 

 

Founded in 1850, The Times-Dispatch is a 2021 Pulitzer Prize
winner covering one of the country’s most dynamic communities. We value
memorable storytelling and accountability journalism that makes a difference.

 

What we’re looking for:

  • Write daily and
    enterprise stories on the Richmond-area real estate and rental market

  • Pitch stories as well as
    take assignments

  • Balance multiple
    assignments and priorities on deadline

  • Have strong
    interviewing, writing and researching skills

  • Consistently break news

  • Uphold standards in a
    fast-paced environment

  • Use strong news judgment
    and attention to detail

 Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in
    journalism, English or related discipline

  • Two years of experience
    in business journalism or writing for a trade publication

  • Experience with online
    content management systems and video are pluses

  • Strong communicator,
    with excellent interpersonal skills, who works with desk colleagues and
    newsroom departments

  • Able to work a flexible
    schedule, including weekends

 

This position will be based in our Richmond,
Virginia/Hanover County office.
