The Departments of Special Education and Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin are searching for a full-time professional track faculty member for our teacher education programs. Successful applicants for this non-tenure track position will contribute to two teacher preparation programs: Special Education (EC-12) and ESL Generalist (EC-6). The faculty member will be appointed to coordinating groups of students progressing through the Special Education program and making placements for their internship, residency, and/or clinical student teaching. The faculty member will also be responsible for leading and teaching one or more sections of a course entitled Special Education and Disability Pedagogical Approaches for EC-6 ESL Generalist students. Responsibilities may also include supervising student teachers/interns across both programs and teaching other courses as needed by the Departments. Positions are contingent upon student enrollment, department need, and availability of funding as well as successful teaching and contributions to the academic enterprise of the College of Education. Title is in the Practice/Instruction series, and salary and rank (assistant, associate, or full professor) are dependent on duties, experience, and qualifications.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree earned by May 15, 2026
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate college/university level
  • At least three years of K-12 teaching experience in U. S. public schools
  • Direct experience as a Special Education Teacher
  • Special Education teacher certification (Texas Special Education Specialist EC-12 or Special Education Specialist Supplemental or another state equivalent)
  • Excellent communication skills and a student-centered approach to teaching

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree is preferred and is required for graduate teaching assignments
  • Expertise in a content area (e.g., reading education, mathematics education, social studies education)
  • Teaching in ESL or dual language/bilingual education contexts
  • Experience as a mentor or coach in a preservice or inservice context (e.g., field supervisor, instructional coach, or early career teacher mentor)
  • Research and scholarship in a related area
