Iraqi Women Media Prize for Best National Coverage of Women’s Rights Issues

Call for Application

Internews-Iraq is launching a first open-call for Iraqi Women Media Prize for best national coverage of women’s rights issues for media outlets and journalists in Iraq, with a focus on outstanding coverage of women’s rights issues. Internews seeks to promote producing media contents and works based on gender-sensitive issues and covering women’s rights issues.

This open call from Internews helps journalists to produce content that challenges stereotypes, highlights women as drivers of change, and covers critical issues for women and girls.

To be entitled to this prize, individuals or media outlets can apply with stories or reports focused on women’s rights issues. Nomination through third parties is also possible. An independent jury consisting of Internews staff and international and local media experts will review all submissions and select the three best stories/reports/films.

Internews’ Iraqi Women Media Prize consists of two types of awards.

  • The prize for women journalists: Internews will award three women journalists with a special prize for the most outstanding women’s rights coverage and content production about women’s rights issues. The awards will consist of $1,500 for the first prize, $1,000 for the second and $500 for the third prize. Furthermore, the three awarded women journalists will also receive travel grants to attend a significant international journalism conference (ARIJ conference in Amman or Journalism Festival in Perugia). This grant will be for 2021.
  • The prize for the most progressive media outlet: This prize will be awarded to the most progressive Iraqi media outlet in terms of rights-based women’s rights coverage. The award for the selected media outlet is a grant of $5,000.

We are looking for fresh, innovative, and creative media contents focusing on women’s rights and gender issues in Iraqi society.
