The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication at Hofstra University invites applications for an anticipated tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations to teach in our journalism undergraduate and graduate programs, starting September 1, 2022. The position is open rank, depending on qualifications.

We seek a resourceful, responsive teacher-practitioner who is knowledgeable about best practices and current tools for multiplatform storytelling, and who possesses professional journalism experience in a contemporary newsroom or digital media environment. The preferred candidate will have a strong background in broadcast journalism and emerging technologies, which may include on-air or production experience, with proficiency and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: sports journalism, data journalism, community journalism, and/or investigative journalism.

Qualifications: Candidates should have a demonstrated understanding of the value of journalism in presenting the narratives of underserved and marginalized populations. The preferred candidate should have a body of academic work and/or professional credentials, and an earned Master’s degree in journalism or related communication degree. The ideal candidate should have an understanding of the ethical, economic, and technological challenges facing the changing media landscape and demonstrate innovative approaches to addressing them in an undergraduate and graduate curriculum.

Candidates for tenure-track appointments are expected to establish a successful record of academic scholarship and industry-related professional output as well as participate in service and committee work for the Department, the School, and the University.
