The Department of History and Sociology at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus in Kelowna invites applications for a tenure-track faculty Assistant Professor position in South Asian or East Asian History. The position will be held in the Department of History and Sociology. The appointment is expected to start on July 1, 2022 or soon thereafter.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in History or a closely related field (e.g., Asian Studies with an historical focus) by the start of the appointment, an active scholarly profile and demonstrated high-quality experience in research and publication, as well as demonstrated excellence of relevant teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research, teaching and graduate supervision, and to engage in service, to establish a strong externally funded research program, and to engage with the interdisciplinary nature of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching introductory survey history courses as well as developing and teaching new upper-level courses in their area of expertise. Candidates are expected to demonstrate evidence of commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful, collegial, and conducive learning and working environment.

The Department of History and Sociology is housed in the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The faculty contains both discipline-based and interdisciplinary programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
