The Department of History and Sociology, Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology position in the area of social inequality and social justice. The appointment is expected to start on July 1, 2022 or soon thereafter.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Sociology or a closely related field by the start of the appointment. The successful candidate will become a member of the Department of the Department of History and Sociology (https://hs.ok.ubc.ca/) The search is open to scholars specializing in social inequality and social justice. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research, teaching, and graduate supervision, and to engage in service, establish a strong externally funded research program, and engage with the interdisciplinary nature of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to student mentoring and supervision; show an established record of excellence in undergraduate teaching and learning in sociology; and provide evidence of, or interest in, effective graduate teaching appropriate to career stage. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching introductory survey sociology courses as well as teaching and developing upper-level courses in their area of expertise. Candidates are expected to demonstrate evidence of commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful, collegial, and conducive learning and working environment.

The Department of History and Sociology is housed in the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The faculty contains both discipline-based and interdisciplinary programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
