Summary
The Residential College Social Theory and Practice Program http://www.rc.lsa.umich.edu/ is seeking to hire a part time Lecturer to team-teach a course on advanced practices in community engagement for the Winter 2022 semester. This position will be a 33.33% position for teaching one course in the winter semester.

Course Description
This course, Urban Studies, Urban Design and Social Justice in Detroit, (RCSSI 360-003 / ARCH 409-003) offers an interdisciplinary perspective on urban studies, urban design and the ways that concerns around social justice and equity can influence how we think about cities in the past, present and future. Drawing on a range of faculty experience in LSA and the Taubman College, this team-taught course incorporates the voices of practitioners and community members involved in current attempts to revitalize Detroit and “Detroit-like” cities in the United States and elsewhere.
Responsibilities*
The candidate will provide instruction for a class of approximately twelve to twenty undergraduates in an interdisciplinary liberal arts program. Additional duties include participation in college- and program-wide activities, including attending student exhibitions and program meetings. The instructor will provide written evaluations for Residential College students enrolled in the course.
Required Qualifications*
The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise and background in instruction of urban studies and social justice. Establishing a practice of expertise in various academic disciplines and writing appropriate to the years in the field of the candidate is expected.
Minimum: PhD in History, Political Science, Sociology, Urban Studies or Afro-American and African Studies is preferred. Other disciplines may be considered depending on experience in teaching social justice and/or urban studies.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
