At the University of Greifswald’s Department of Political Science and Communication Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, there is a job vacancy expected to be available from 01 April 2022, subject to the provision of funds, for a part-time (65%)

Research Assistant.

The position on offer is limited to a period of 24 months. Payment will be made according to pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft.

The successful candidate will work in the project “Can a woman do the job? Introducing a gender perspective on legislative oversight”, funded by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation. Using a mixed-methods design, the project team will investigate whether parliamentarians treat women as ministers differently than men. And if so, to what extent, why, and under which conditions. Job description:

  • Active participation in the realisation of the project “Can a woman do the job?”
  • Collection of qualitative and quantitative data for the project, including semi-structured interviews with parliamentarians in Germany, Belgium and Denmark

Candidates are explicitly invited to pursue a doctoral degree, preferably engaging with a topic linked to the project.

Job requirements:

required:

  • Master’s degree (or comparable) in social science
  • Familiarity with the project topic or related areas of comparative politics
  • Experience in conducting empirical research projects in the social sciences
  • Very good command of written and spoken German and English
  • Ability to work independently, think analytically and work in teams

desired:

  • basic knowledge of French or Danish or alternatively, willingness to learn these languages

The position is open to all persons, irrespective of gender. The University would like to increase the proportion of women in areas in which they are underrepresented and thus applications from women are particularly welcome and will be treated with priority if they have the same qualifications and as long as there are no clear reasons which make a fellow applicant more suitable. Severely disabled applicants with the same qualifications will be considered with preference.

In accordance with § 68(3) PersVG M-V, the Staff Council will only be involved in staff matters of the academic or artistic staff on request.
