The Art & Design Department at Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in art history beginning August 2022. We are seeking an innovative, inclusive, and student-centered art historian to teach a range of art history courses from introductory/survey courses to specialized upper-division offerings based on the applicant’s area of expertise as well as departmental need. Course delivery will include both remote and face-to-face options. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge in art history as well as the ability to teach specialized courses in Renaissance and/or Baroque Art. The ideal candidate will also have experience teaching and/or developing online courses. Further duties include mentoring students, engaging in continuing scholarship and professional activities, participating in program reviews and curriculum development, and participating in service at the departmental, school, and university levels. The successful candidate may be asked to develop new online courses in art history. The successful candidate may be asked to serve as the program coordinator for the art history area.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Ph.D. in Art History (or ABD with degree completion required by start date). Experience teaching in higher education. Knowledge and skill in current online instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and disciplined content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university.

  • Knowledge in current online instructional theory, methods, strategies, and techniques
  • Knowledge in student management, motivation, and evaluation techniques
  • Experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives

  • Skills in teaching art history and related practices
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Skills in interpersonal relationships, problem-solving, and decision-making

Abilities:

  • Ability to relate well with students and colleagues
  • Ability to evaluate student work effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to develop and teach online courses
  • Ability to create online instructional content
  • Ability to teach large section courses
  • Experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Ph.D. in Art History (or ABD with degree completion required by start date). Experience teaching a range of courses (lower- and upper-division) as well as a range of modalities (live, online, remote) preferred. Expertise in Renaissance and/or Baroque art preferred. Three or more years of university-level teaching experience preferred. Experience teaching/working in linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse settings desirable.
