Selahattin Genç, a sick prisoner who was arrested in Şırnak in 1993, suffered a partial stroke on February 16th at the Diyarbakir T-Type Closed Prison where he was being held. However, just two days after being treated in the hospital and losing mobility in his left arm, he was sent back to prison, MA reports.
Genç’s wife, Ayse Genç, said her husband’s sentence would end in a year and asked for his release.
Ayse Genç said her husband had previously had angio, lung inflammation, bronchitis and asthma, and that his condition is becoming more critical every day.
“Selahattin has been in prison for over 29 years and 2 months. He was taken to Elazig Prison at the time of his arrest. He was later transferred to prisons such as Midyat, Kırkale, Sirnak and Rize. He’s had a few surgeries before because of his illnesses.”
She continues:
“First he had surgery from his intestine. He later suffered an injury and inflammation from his liver. As his condition worsened, he suffered a stroke. Last time I saw him, he could barely walk, his arms and legs were trembling. Even before he was paralyzed, he was having trouble meeting his needs.”
Ayse Genç stated that preventing her husband’s treatment causes his disease to become more severe.
“We want him to be released. He is not treated, such a sick person should be hospitalized. In addition to these diseases, he also has bronchitis and asthma. My husband needs proper treatment. A person who has a stroke should be under the supervision of a doctor for at least a week. But he was only in the hospital for two days. We want him released and treated as soon as possible.”
