Turkey’s Operation Claw-Lock, launched on 17 April, has resulted in the loss of some three million trees in the Badinan region in Northern Iraq, Green Party of Kurdistan said on the eighth anniversary of the party’s founding.
The invasion attacks deliberately targeted trees in the region, resulting in the large-scale destruction, Kurdistan Greens Spokesman Dana Najmadeen told reporters. “We filed complaints with the Iraqi Supreme Court and the United Nations against the brutal and organised attacks.”
Iraqi Kurdistan faces several crises, Green Party of Kurdistan said on the eighth anniversary of the party’s founding.
“Our community faces environmental, political, and economic crises, which burden our people,” Najmadeen said. “We urge all political factions to resolve these issues in a timely manner.”
The Greens are preparing for a campaign to plant one million trees in Sulaimaniyah, the spokesman said. The party is calling for a Kurdistan-wide campaign of cooperation over environmental issues. “At the end of the day, we all benefit from it,” they said.
