A record high number of 2,153 physicians have applied to get conformity certificates for working abroad within the first ten months of the year, Turkish Medical Association (TTB) said on Tuesday.
The figures almost doubled compared to the previous year, according to TTB data shared via social media.
In 2021, the number of applications stood at 1405.
Turkey’s medical workers are facing difficulties in working conditions amid rising cases of violence targeting them. A total of 361 healthcare workers in the country were subjected to 190 violence acts in 2021, according to a report by the Union of Healthcare and Social Service Workers (Saglik-Sen), an uptick over 60 percent compared to the previous year. Inadequate payments and unmanageable working hours are among other problems that medical workers raise.
“We will resolutely continue our struggle against the causes of the migration of our physicians, for the values of medicine and the right of society to health,” TTB said.
According to TTB data, the organization recorded only 59 applications for the conformity certificates in 2012.
