“What arrived at Adana Airport was tagged with AFAD stickers”
Turkey’s state-owned Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) is trying to pass off foreign aid deliveries to earthquake-hit country as its own, the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung has warned.
“What arrives at Adana Airport was tagged with AFAD stickers,” FAZ said on Monday, adding that the logo of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) was even stuck on some aid supplies.
“Numerous videos are circulating on social media showing that private aid deliveries or those from smaller cities governed by opposition parties are also tagged with the logo of the ruling AKP or are even prevented from continuing by the local governors,” the German newspaper said.
At least 31,643 people have been killed by the massive earthquakes that hit Turkey on Feb.6, according to latest official data.
Following the catastrophic quakes, countries all over the world have sent humanitarian aid to Turkey in support of earthquake survivors.
