Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan continued to crack down on the opposition after critics blamed his government for the lack of an adequate initial response following the massive earthquakes in Turkey that killed more than 41,000 people.

During a visit to the earthquake-stricken southern province of Osmaniye, he again called out opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu after he criticized the inadequacies of the Turkish Red Crescent.

“An impudent will not stop being impudent. You immoral, you dishonest, you base,” he scolded Kilicdaroglu, defending that the Red Crescent distributed food every day to 2.5 million people in the earthquake zone.

“The leaders and supporters of the main opposition parties are blind and their hearts are sealed when they say that the government is not here,” he said.

He added:

“From the first day, the State, with its military and gendarmerie, has taken its place in 11 provinces. We rushed to help with a thousand of our officials. We have used all the means at our disposal.”

Erdogan also defended urban transformation projects:

“Now, one them says they are against urban transformation, one from Adana. Who is this? A mayor from the CHP. Urban transformation is indisputable. We definitely need it,” he said.
