Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the opposition’s presidential candidate in Turkey and the leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) has expressed his determination to solve the Kurdish question through democratic means “to end the tears of mothers.”

In the preface of a book titled “Bir de Benden Dinleyin. CHP Kürt Sorununun Çözümünde Ne Dedi?” (Listen to Me Too. What Did CHP Say About Solving the Kurdish Issue?) by th CHP Istanbul Deputy Sezgin Tanrikulu, Kilicdaroglu emphasized that the resolution of the Kurdish question is a crucial step towards realizing the democratic vision for Turkey’s progress, growth, expansion, and internal peace and stability.

Kilicdaroglu argued that the CHP has consistently put forward transparent and courageous solutions for resolving the Kurdish question “despite the obstacles, manipulations, and hidden agendas of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP.)”

He also criticized the AKP’s mishandling of the previous “resolution process” and reiterated CHP’s commitment to resolving the issue through democratic means and ending the tears of mothers.

“Erdogan said he would “drink poison” on this path if he had to, but he only exploited the resolution process to protect his own seat and made the people drink the poison,” Kilicdaroglu wrote.

He added:

“During that process, we consistently emphasized that this issue could be resolved through political and social consensus in the National Assembly, where the will of the people is embodied, rather than behind closed doors. We presented clear and concrete proposals to the National Assembly during the resolution process, and we stood behind these proposals. Just like yesterday, today we are determined to solve the Kurdish issue through democratic means, end terrorism, and ease the tears of mothers. Because this problem is not only the problem of our Kurdish citizens, but also a common problem of all Turkey, and its solution will also require common political and social consensus.”
