As the world press continues to focus on the elections to be held on May 14, the increasing number of comments about President Erdogan’s health, which has raised doubts in recent days, has also attracted attention. Germany’s leading newspaper Bild also expressed concerns about Erdogan’s health. In its article titled “Is Erdogan coming to an end?” the newspaper commented that “Erdogan seems to be running out of breath.”

“PALE AND WITH DARK CIRCLES UNDER HIS EYES”

The newspaper also addressed the wave of speculation on social media following President Erdogan’s abrupt exit from a live broadcast on Tuesday, stating that rumors extended to the possibility of a ‘heart attack.’ Bild shared with its readers that due to his health condition, Erdogan participated in the opening of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant via video conference on Wednesday, looking “pale and with dark circles under his eyes.”

The newspaper highlighted that 69-year-old Erdogan has also experienced a political decline, with his poll numbers dropping significantly and the possibility of losing the election to the opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu increasing.

EARTHQUAKES, CORRUPTION, AND AN ECONOMIC CRISIS

The German newspaper also highlighted the reasons behind Erdogan’s political weakening, putting the events following the Maras-centered earthquakes on February 6 and corruption at the forefront. The newspaper noted that the Turkish lira hit its lowest level against the euro two weeks ago and pointed out that inflation, which stood at 7.4 percent on an annual basis in Germany, was measured at 50.51 percent in Turkey in a three-month period. The report also mentioned that support for Erdogan among women has decreased and that many voters have distanced themselves from him by thinking that religion is being exploited for politics.
