The People’s Liberation Party (HKP) in Turkey has filed a criminal complaint against Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and his close associates over allegations of corruption and malfeasance in the tender process for an airport’s operations back in 2007.
The corruption allegations were revealed by whistleblower Ali Yesildag, the brother of Turkish Media Group owner Hasan Yesildag, who is one of the most reliable backers of President Erdogan, in a series of videos detailing corruption and wrongdoing by government officials and their associates.
Yesildag alleged that during the 2007 tender process for Turkey’s southern Antalya Airport’s operations, Erdogan and his allies colluded to steal documents from Celebi Holding’s file, resulting in the disqualification of their bid, and ensured that IC Investment Holding won the tender. Yesildag also claimed that Erdogan personally received $1 billion in exchange for his involvement in the scheme.
The HKP lawyers have accused Erdogan, and his three associates Ali İhsal Arslan, Ibrahim Cece, and Hasan Yesildag of managing a criminal organization, manipulating the tender process, accepting bribes, engaging in influence peddling, and abusing their official duties.
In addition to his allegations regarding the Antalya Airport tender, Yesildag has also released other videos alleging corruption and wrongdoing by government officials and their associates, including former Agriculture Minister Mehdi Eker, whom he claims conspired with him to establish companies to win billion-dollar contracts and obtain half of the agricultural subsidies that the European Union intended to provide.
Yesildag’s claims also include shocking allegations such as the murder of holding company owners, the kidnapping of a child for $3 million, and the killing of a rape victim and the staging of her death as a suicide.
Meanwhile, former Turkish Grand National Assembly Speaker and AKP founder Bulent Arinc has expressed concern about the allegations, stating, “I believe that those responsible for conducting a thorough investigation and examination of these allegations are not taking the matter seriously enough. I am saddened by the involvement of President Erdogan’s name in these statements. We are a party that claims to stand for a clean society. I believe it is necessary to reveal those responsible for these allegations.”
