US forces on Sunday shot down in Syria’s northeast a suspected Turkish drone when the drone approached the Tel Baydar garrison where the US-led Global Coalition forces are stationed, North Press Agency cited a military source saying.
The drone, designed for one-way attack, was downed in the countryside of Hasakah Governorate under the control of Kurdish-led Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), and came from an area under the control of Turkish-backed armed factions, the source operating with the Coalition told North Press.
The incident marks the second time a Turkish drone has been targeted by US forces in Syria. Another Turkish drone was downed by US forces a month earlier.
No official comment from US or Turkey has yet been provided, and it is also not clear yet whether the downed drone belonged to the Turkish military or to a militia group operating under Turkish command.
