President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli have dispelled rumours of discord within the People’s Alliance, reiterating their commitment to a unified vision for Turkey’s future. Both leaders emphasized their shared goals and principles in recent statements, presenting a solid front against speculation of disagreement.

Erdoğan: “No Conflict, No Difference of Opinion”

Speaking to journalists aboard his return flight from Brazil, President Erdoğan underlined the importance of his recent meeting with Bahçeli. He described it as a pivotal moment in reinforcing the harmony and unity of the People’s Alliance.

“There is absolutely no disagreement, no conflict, no difference of opinion between us,” Erdoğan declared. “We have a shared vision for the future of our country, and we remain aligned on every critical issue.”

Erdoğan revealed that their discussions encompassed all major items on Turkey’s political and national agenda, particularly focusing on strategies to achieve a “Terror-Free Turkey.” He also addressed Bahçeli’s recent comments regarding Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the PKK, affirming that there was no divergence in their perspectives on the matter.

Highlighting the People’s Alliance’s foundational values, Erdoğan stated:

“This alliance was not born in dark corridors or through dirty deals. It was built with the blood of our martyrs, the trust of our citizens, and a shared vision of a stronger Turkey.”

Bahçeli: “The People’s Alliance Stands Firm”

In an address to his party’s parliamentary group last Tuesday, Devlet Bahçeli similarly dismissed claims of discord between himself and Erdoğan. Responding to speculation, Bahçeli affirmed the alliance’s steadfastness:

“When it comes to the nation, there is no distinction between our President and us. The People’s Alliance’s resolve is unwavering, unlike others.”

Bahçeli also criticized the media for propagating divisive narratives, urging journalists to refrain from provocative questions. During his remarks, he condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, calling them “a device of murder and genocide,” and reaffirmed the alliance’s focus on national unity in the face of domestic and international challenges.

“The People’s Alliance is the Republic of Turkey. It is the essence of the Turkish nation. It is the architect of the future,” Bahçeli proclaimed, emphasizing the coalition’s pivotal role in shaping the country’s direction.
