The Chair of Education Systems investigates the shifts in educational systems in the face of globalization, an aging society and the rapid development of technology. We also examine the characteristics of the most effective education systems in the world and how they align to labor market demand. Our research focuses on comparing education systems and analyzing their institutional frameworks. Building on our experience in translational research, our research contributes to the evaluation and development of education systems in a number of countries on all six inhabited continents.

Job description

The research assistant will support the Chair of Education Systems with its international research project, LELAM-TVET4Income, and the CEMETS (Center on the Economics and Management of Education and Training Systems). In this role, you will be working closely with academic experts on the economics, sociology, and policy frameworks of education systems at the Chair and in the project partner countries. You will also interact with education reform leaders from these countries and around the world.

Your key tasks will include supporting the LELAM coordinator in the compilation and editing of a book bringing together the principal academic contributions of the project; taking an active role in the preparation and coordination of academic events, including the end-of-project conference; and preparing a project plan for ongoing international collaboration with the LELAM coordinator. You will be expected to assist the LELAM coordinator, the CEMETS director, and members of the CES team with research, communication and survey-related tasks as they arise.

Your profile

Successful applicants need to have a master’s degree or equivalent. Excellent organizational and communication skills are required, as well as excellent speaking and writing in English. Good command of French and German is an advantage, Spanish is a bonus. You should be familiar with Office applications and confident figuring out new platforms (experience with survey programs a bonus but not required). Research experience in economics, education policy, sociology, or similar are helpful, as are analytical skills gained from research, data science, or programming experience. You are interested in research, but not necessarily interested in pursuing a strictly academic career path.

You bring enthusiasm for education, policy work, and international exchange with you. Ideally, you have already gained initial experience in this environment. Most importantly, you work well independently and with others and are happy when you are part of a high-performing team.
