Villages and a power plant near the town of Tall Tamr, and villages in the district of Abu Rasin (Zirgan) in North and East Syria were heavily shelled by Turkish forces on Sunday according to reports by Hawar News Agency.

Tall Tamr, a town of about 7,000, is to the southeast of Ras al-Ayn (Serê Kaniyê), which was occupied by the Turkish army and its proxies in October 2019.

The town has been under constant fire since then, and it was last targeted in heavy shelling by the Turkish artillery on 4 April, when three people were injured.

Villages hit in recent attacks include Dirdara, Til Shenan, Til Cûma, Jêrîn, Qesir Toma Yelda, Tewîla and Xeybish, all around Tall Tamr.

Three villagers, Lûey Xelîl Hemad, Ridwan Tirkî Al-Tihêmî and Eymen Elî Al-Ahmad, were injured near the village of Til Cûma, and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Lûey Xelîl Hemad told Hawar News that they were in the field for wheat harvest but had to return when the shelling began. As they resumed work in the field a while later they were caught in the bombardment and were injured.

Hawar News reported that there were casualties also in the village of Tewîla.

Three villages in Abu Rasin were also targeted by the Turkish artillery.

Zirgan is about 2 km from the territory that is currently under the occupation of the Turkish army and its proxies.

Both Tall Tamr and Abu Rasin are situated in the region under the control of the Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

The Turkish administration regards the AANES as an entity governed by affiliates of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), designated a ‘terrorist group’ in Turkey, and has been occupying and attacking the region since 2016.
