Turkish far right Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) expressed condolences only on the death of a police officer, who was among the 20 people killed by multiple truck crashes in the Kurdish-majority city of Derik on Saturday.
In another deadly incident the same day in the southeastern province of Antep, 16 people were killed in two consecutive accidents, including firefighters, medical workers and reporters.
Upon reactions on social media, a second MHP tweet was posted, this time expressing condolences “on the deaths of firefighters, health workers, reporters and civilian citizens” who were slain in two separate incidents.
In one of the reactions to the first tweet, a user said:
“20 people were killed. 19 of the fatalities were Kurdish and one was Turkish. So it seems they express condolences only on the death of one.”
Another user:
“20 people died. Is it so hard to express condolences on the deaths of all victims?”
Another user:
“Your hate knows no boundaries. Discrimination even among the dead! When you are not even capable of expressing condolences, how can you possibly represent people? Racism is not an ideological view but a psychological illness.”
Another user:
“It is difficult not to say that MHP is a racist party. You’ve turned into a party of disgrace.”
