Ankara public prosecution prepared an indictment for Turkish Medical Association Chair Sebnem Korur Fincani’s removal off the post, following her arrest on terrorism charges on Thursday, regarding the statements she made over Turkey’s chemical warfare allegations.
The indictment that also calls for the dismissal of TTB’s Central Council members, predicts new appointments for all the posts, Haber Turk reported on Friday.
Fincanci was arrested on terrorism charges on Thursday, within the scope of an investigation launched by Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s office over her remarks regarding the allegations that Turkish military used chemical weapons against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in Northern Iraq.
“Obviously, one of the toxic chemical gases was used that directly affects the nervous system,” Fincanci told Media Haber during a live broadcast last week, sharing her examinations on the basis of the coverages allegedly showing the chemical warfare posted in social media. Fincanci also urged independent missions to investigate the incident within the scope of international treaties.
Following the interview, prosecutors in Ankara launched the probe into Fincanci on the grounds of “disseminating propaganda in favour of a terrorist organisation” and “insulting the Turkish nation, the state of the Republic of Turkey and its institutions.”
The head of the top medical body rejected the charges in her statement to the prosecution.
Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag on Thursday also announced that work is underway to remove “Turkish” from the name of TTB, in accordance with the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s instructions.
Erdogan on Monday has targeted the top doctor as saying that “necessary steps, concerning both this person and the association in question, will be taken.”
“The judiciary has taken action against the Turkish Medical Association’s chair who made a slander against our Turkish Armed Forces that have been conducting cross border campaigns (…) We will see, through a new legislation if necessary, that this person is removed from her post. I believe that it disturbs every single individual of our nation that such a person, who slanders the reputation of her nation and army using the language of the terrorist group, is currently heading an institution whose title begins with the word Turkish,” Erdogan said.
Erdogan said he instructed relevant ministers to speed up the legislative work on transitioning to a new structure in professional organizations, especially in the Medical Association.
Bozdag said the Justice Ministry started work in this context.
“Those who are hostile to the Turkish nation and the Turkish state cannot work under the roof of organizations which have “Turkish” in their names,” Bozdag said.
