Description:
The Miller Center of Public Affairs, a nonpartisan affiliate of the University of Virginia, seeks an Audiovisual Editor to help produce and promote its public affairs programming. The Audiovisual Editor will join a team of communications professionals, playing a key role in producing, recording, and livestreaming about 40 events per year. These responsibilities include editing content for distribution across web, mobile, and social media platforms, which generate more than one million views annually.
During live events, the Audiovisual Editor will manage audio levels and ensure quality streaming and recording. The Audiovisual Editor will then edit and produce video content for the Miller Center’s website and social media and also create longer-form videos from other Center programs. Occasional work outside regular business hours may be required.
This role is essential in helping the Miller Center deliver critical insights on presidential scholarship, public policy, and political history to audiences nationwide and globally.
Responsibilities
Post-Produce for distribution (55%)
- Produce professionally edited video content for web and social media distribution, ensuring high audio and video quality, as well as professional pacing and scene selection.
- Produce attractive and effective graphics packages for programming.
- Meet established production deadlines to ensure programming is distributed in a timely manner.
Produce and record live programming (35%)
- Assist in the production (recording and web streaming) of approximately 40 live events annually, ranging from 1-hour presentations to multi-day conferences.
- Oversee audio in both the venue (in house) and the recording/stream, controlling up to 8 microphones to ensure optimal audio levels.
- Keep careful and accurate records, tracking versions and sources
Maintain Up-to-Date Editing Techniques and Technologies (5%)
- Research and incorporate recent and emerging post-production techniques and technologies to ensure that programming remains as fresh and current as budgets allow.
Perform other duties as assigned (5%)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- One year of experience. Experience may include full-time employment and/or internships, externships, shadowing, volunteering, employment as a student worker, part-time or summer jobs, and similar activities in which skills that are relevant to the work of the position are developed.
- Experience with (or the ability to quickly become proficient in) Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Premier Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Animate, and Audition).
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with a team of Audiovisual professionals.
- Strong skills in maintaining accurate records and tracking versions and sources.
- Ability to establish and meet deadlines efficiently.
- Experience handling multiple tasks and competing priorities.
- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
- Dedication to upholding the values of the Miller Center’s faculty and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in film and media studies or another field related to audiovisual production and video editing.
- Experience running in-house audio for a music or speaking venue.
- Knowledge of and experience with creating website content and social media posts, including working within a content management system.
Salary Range
The anticipated salary range for this position is $43,000 – $53,000, depending on qualifications.
