Reporters 2

The Anchorage Daily News, Alaska’s most-read news site and newspaper, is looking for experienced reporters. We have openings in an ambitious, online-focused newsroom in an incredible place with great stories that need told.

We’re an audience-driven newsroom that’s been awarded three Pulitzer Prizes for public service, the most recent in 2020. We’re dedicated to serving our readers and serving Alaska. We try hard to do work that matters and to steer clear of work that doesn’t.

We’re always on the lookout for journalists searching for a newsroom where they can produce the best work of their careers. We’re looking for reporters with solid, proven records in the basics: accuracy, context, curiosity, fairness, clear and engaging writing and the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment. You think critically, can see and find stories, know how to report them and see paths through spin and process. You understand that what we do is a public service, and you’re driven to report not just what happened but why. You want to understand how things work and explore solutions to problems. We’ll give you support, time and the tools to do great work.

We have a focus on and commitment to audiences — serving them, listening to them, growing them, retaining them. You need to understand online news and have a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. We’re big enough to have a robust readership and wide, deep reach. We’re small enough to make decisions quickly, to experiment and for individual journalists in our newsroom to have immediate and significant impacts.

We cover a place bursting with rich, complex, interesting news — and smart, demanding readers who know what good journalism looks like. We have wide online reach and have repeatedly been honored for our work, including a list of ONA, IRE and SPJ national awards. We’re part of ProPublica’s Local Reporting Network and are working to expand partnerships to further power our journalism. Our top priority is serving and connecting with Alaska readers.

We offer competitive pay and benefits in a city of 300,000 with Alaska and all its outdoor opportunities out the door. Our company features a hybrid work environment, with a remote-work stipend, and we’ve worked to provide flexible newsroom schedules. We take work-life balance seriously. We’ll relocate the right candidates.
