According to the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index 2019 released on Thursday, Turkey ranks 109th among 126 countries in adherence to the rule of law.

The Washington, D.C.-based organization published the report as well as country maps on its website, where Turkey received a score of 0.42 out of 1.00.

The index measures how the rule of law is experienced and perceived by the general public in 126 countries and jurisdictions worldwide based on more than 120,000 household and 3,800 expert surveys.

The report stated that rule of law performance is measured in countries across eight factors: constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil justice and criminal justice.

Denmark, Norway and Finland are the top performers according to the index, while Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cambodia and Venezuela ranked last.
