Biden administration will recognize Armenian Genocide: White House spokesperson

Turkey accepts that many Armenians were killed by Ottoman forces but denies that up to 1.5 million died and that it amounted to genocide -- a term employed by many Western historians and some foreign parliaments. Τhe US administration under President Joe Biden believes it is important to acknowledge history in respect to the issue of the Armenian Genocide, a White House spokesperson has told Kathimerini.

Replying to a request for reaction to a letter initiater by Senator Bob Menenez and co-signed by 36 other Senators of both parties, the spokesperson said the Biden administration “is committed to promoting respect for human rights and ensuring such atrocities are not repeated. A critical part of that is acknowledging history.”
