Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Studies at Fayetteville State University offers B.A. and M.A. programs in Sociology and a B.S. program in Interdisciplinary Studies, with minors in Africana Studies and Sociology, and a graduate certificate in Applied Sociology.
Description of Work Continued: Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Studies at Fayetteville State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of sociology position to begin January 2022. The area of specialization is open. We seek applicants with a commitment to excellence in teaching effectiveness and the ability to teach a variety of sociology courses at undergraduate and graduate levels in both face-to-face and online settings. In particular, the successful applicant is expected to teach SOCI 335 (Sociological Research Methods) and SOCI 590 (Advanced Social Science Research) courses on a regular basis. The standard teaching load is 9 credit hours (3 courses) per semester.

Applicants should possess active research agenda and demonstrate strong potential for scholarly activities. The successful applicant will be part of a cohesive team of culturally diverse faculty members who work closely as mentors with students in our undergraduate and graduate programs. Also, the successful applicant is expected to serve on departmental, college-wide, and university-wide committees, and to participate in recruitment events.

The department offers most upper-division and graduate-level sociology courses online in Canvas. The successful applicant must complete the Canvas online faculty teaching orientation offered by the Office of Faculty Development in compliance with the NC-SARA (National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements) requirements.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: A Ph.D. in Sociology is required at the time of employment.
A strong commitment to excellence in teaching is expected.
The ability to teach undergraduate- and graduate-level research methods courses.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Preferred Qualifications: Online and in-class teaching experience.
Experience with online course development and instruction in Canvas or other online learning management system.
