Position Summary
Eastern New Mexico University’s Department of History, Social Sciences and Religion is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in early-modern and modern European History to begin in August 2022. Appointment requires residence in the Portales, NM area. Appointment will be at a rank commensurate with academic training and experience.
Requirements: Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsibilities include a 12-hour teaching load per semester (offered face-to-face, online and/or via lecture capture platforms, to support distance learners).
- Position also requires active participation in program outcome assessments, student academic advising, and/or other duties as assigned.
- Contract is for nine months. Summer contracts may be available, based on department need.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in History, higher-education teaching experience is preferred. A well-qualified ABD applicant within one year of completion of degree will be considered. Required teaching areas include early-modern and modern European history, with the specialization open. The successful candidate must be able to teach the lower-division survey courses in Western Civilization (although experience in World History is also acceptable) and European history. Ability to develop lower- and upper-division coursework in non-western history is also desirable. Areas of specialization desired may include, but are not limited to, modern middle east/west Asia and Africa.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- University-level teaching experience is preferred.
- Ability to develop and teach the Western Civilization sequence of courses and lower- and upper-division coursework in European history as determined by program needs and experience and in consultation with department faculty. Courses are offered via lecture-capture, onsite, and/or online. (Professional development workshops are available on campus).
Working Conditions: Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
- Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
