Demirtaş’s Call to Newroz: Your voice reaches Edirne

Selahattin Demirtaş, imprisoned former People’s Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair who has been kept in Edirne F Type Prison for five years, called for Istanbul Newroz: “Let’s meet at the Great Newroz celebration. Your voice reaches to Edirne anyways”, he said.

Demirtas called for Newroz celebrations in Istanbul, which will be held at Yenikapi Square at 11:00 on Sunday, March 20th.

From his official Twitter account, Demirtaş stated the following:

“I celebrate Newroz in advance. I wish it to lead to peace and freedom.

Let’s meet on Sunday, March 20 at 11:00 at Yenikapı Square, at the great Newroz celebration. #Come onNewroza

Your voice reaches to Edirne anyways.

Selahattin Demirtaş is a former Co-Chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who has been behind bars in Edirne Prison in northwest Turkey since November 3 2016. He has been held in prison despite a binding ruling by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in December 2020 that he must be immediately released. Since his imprisonment, Demirtaş has written four books: “Seher”, “Devran”, “Leylan” and “Efsun”. Time to time, Demirtaş has been sending messages from prison and comments on the political agenda via his official Twitter account.
