The house of a Kurdish family was stormed in a dawn raid by the Turkish police in Istanbul on Friday not because the residents of the house were suspects, but because they were the parents of Livan Orman, an official of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) for whom an arrest order has been issued.

Father Mehmet Orman told Mezopotamya News Agency about the raid.

“We woke up with a clamour, not by a knocking on the door, around five, five thirty in the morning. We didn’t even have time to ask who it was, as the door was smashed into our faces, and around 20 people charged at me and my wife. They dragged us on the floor and began to kick us before we could say, ‘Stop, what are you doing?’ Their behaviour was inhumane. The more we tried to keep up our integrity, the more we tried to ask them why they were doing this to us, the more they insulted at us.”

Mehmet Orman said that he was going to file a criminal complaint against the police officers who took part in the raid.

His son Livan Orman was arrested in Istanbul on Friday in the context of an investigation carried out by the chief public prosecutor’s office.
