The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed the targeting of a vehicle of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in a town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, North Press Agency reported.

The ISIS-affiliated Amaq News Agency published a statement claiming that the organization’s militants had targeted SDF’s vehicle with machine guns and rockets in the town of al-Zerr, 35 km east of Deir ez-Zor adding that the islamic militants killed three SDF fighters and injured four others.

The countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently witnessed an increase in killing incidents carried out against SDF members, according to employees of the Autonomous Administration and civil residents.

On Wednesday, ISIS took responsibility for murdering two SDF fighters in the town of Sabha, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

On Thursday, local sources from the village of Abraha, east of Deir ez-Zor, said that the residents there found the body of a beheaded young man, an act also claimed by ISIS.

The SDF keeps pursuing the cells with the aim to maintain security and stability of the region, North Press Agency said.

Meanwhile, United Nations Counter-Terrorism Chief Vladimir Voronkov said that the threat posed by ISIS terrorist fighters and their affiliates remains “global and evolving.”

In a joint briefing to the Security Council, Voronkov said “The border between Iraq and Syria remains highly vulnerable, with an estimated 10.000 fighters operating in the area.”
