Russian warplanes bombed on Monday Syrian opposition-held areas in the countryside of Idlib, northwest Syria, as Syrian government forces continued their shelling of southern Idlib and western Aleppo.
An opposition military source told North Press that three Russian warplanes hit the vicinity of the central prison and the nearby forest, west of Idlib, with 14 airstrikes.
The source added that the strikes also targeted the vicinity of the electricity company affiliated with Salvation Government, run by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) which led to a short-time power outage in the neighborhoods of Idlib city.
The source pointed out that the damage was limited to small fires in the nearby bushes and some materials.
According to the source, the Russian raids were the first of their kind in about a month.
On July 22, Russian warplanes targeted the village of al-Jdaideh, west of Idlib, killing seven people as a result.
Meanwhile, the government forces continued shelling of opposition positions in the villages and towns of Fatteirah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, al-Bara and Ruweiha in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, as well as the villages and towns of Tuqad and Kafr Taal in the western countryside of Aleppo. No casualties were reported.
