The Kurdish mothers, known as Peace Mothers, and relatives of political prisoners on Wednesday called for peace on International Day of Peace in front of the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul where a peace agreement was signed between the Turkish government and the Kurdish side in 2015, reported Mezopotamya News Agency.

The women from Istanbul Peace Mothers Assembly and relatives of political prisoners gathered in a dignified way in front of the Dolmabahçe Palace with their distinctive white muslin scarves that symbolise peace.

The first speaker Aklime Keskin said that their request is for peace and that they wanted all Kurdish, Turkish and other mothers to support their call.

“We will never give up requesting peace for everybody. Even if a guerrilla or a soldier is killed, our only request will be peace,” said Keskin.

Another mother Bedia Gökgüz said peace is necessary for all of humanity and called for all violence and killings to end.

“Many people die in the prisons everyday. Stop the isolation. Our tears have dried up. Kurdish mothers take the corpses in the boxes everyday,” said Gökgüz.

By referring to peace talks started in 2013 and ended in 2015, Gökgüz demanded that renewed peace talks urgently begin and said that they will begin a sit down there until peace is achieved.

Behiye Duman also explained how the authorities treated them in a racist and inhumane way.

“We see all kinds of bad and inhuman treatment. They kill and hide our children, they do not give them to their families. They put our loved ones remains in a bag and send it by courier,” said Duman.

At the end of the press statement, police moved in to prevent the mothers continuing their protest. The police, blockading those others who came to make a statement, tried to prevent the media from witnessing their brutal intervention against Peace Mothers, Bedia Gökgüz, Zeliha Gökgüz and Şükran Tugay who they physically assaulted, dragged away and detained.
