The opposition can not claim power if it fails to secure Kurdish votes, Turkey’s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said, adding that the opposition alliance is having difficulty to admit this “mathematical fact.
Bozdag also affronted the HDP asking how it could stand ready to join the opposition alliance while being excluded and shoved around.
“They are embarrassed to sit next to you, they hesitate to be photographed with you, and then they need your vote. Will they turn to look at you after they get your vote? No they won’t,” he said.
HDP recently joined the Labor and Freedom Alliance (EOI,) founded with the support of Turkey’s left wing parties and has not yet committed to support the opposition’s Nation’s Alliance.
The centrist Republican People’s Party (CHP) and the nationalist IyI Party, which lead the Nation Alliance, are currently second and fifth largest in parliament, while EOI’s HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) is third.
HDP co-chair Mithat Sancar already said that they could support the six-party platform depending on the name and principles of their joint candidate.
A recent poll conducted in 16 Kurdish cities in Turkey suggested the backing of 45% of the electorate if main opposition CHP (People’s Republican Party) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu ran against President Tayyip Erdogan in next year’s presidential elections.
