The International Press Institute (IPI) has made a written statement yesterday, on Tuesday about the 11 journalists detained in Ankara, İstanbul, Van, Diyarbakır, Urfa, Manisa and Mardin in simultaneous house raids.

The statement says, “IPI calls on Turkey to release all journalists without delay” says the statement and declared that they are in solidarity with the journalists.

“IPI, the global network of editors, journalists, and media executives, condemns the detention of 11 Kurdish journalists in Turkey on October 25, 2022.

“Turkey regularly abuses anti-terror law to target journalists, who are frequently subject to arbitrary charges and imprisonment. The detentions fit a pattern of serious attacks on press freedom in Turkey.

“IPI calls on Turkish authorities to release these 11 journalists and all other reporters behind bars.”

The police had carried out simultaneous raids in İstanbul and Ankara, as well as the Kurdish-majority provinces of Diyarbakır, Urfa, Van and Mardin early in the morning yesterday and journalists working for Kurdish outlets were detained in ‘terror’ investigation. (HA/PE)
