German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier released a trilingual solidarity message, including Kurdish, after massive earthquakes struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, killing more than 45,000 people.
Steinmeier thanked the rescue teams that helped people during the earthquakes, saying, “The humanity you show in this dark time gives people hope and confidence.”
At the end of his message, Steinmeier noted the following message of solidarity in Turkish, Arabic and Kurdish, which could be translated into English as, we are always with you.
“Biz her zaman yanınızdayız.
Nabqa bi-janibikum.
Emê li cem we bin.”
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu posted a video on Twitter thanking the rescue workers who came to Tukey’s aid, but did not include Kurds, although one team came from the Kurdish region of Iraq.
Ahmet Davutoglu, the chairman of the Future Party, criticized the action and thanked the team in Kurdish.
“Let us also thank our Kurdish brothers, whom the foreign minister ignored: spas,” he said.
