Kasım Gülpınar, a deputy from Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), said at an election rally on Sunday that God would not hold those who vote for the AKP accountable for their political choices.
Speaking at a rally in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa, the deputy said, “When you are resurrected in the hereafter and face God, since you entrusted power to our party, God will not hold you accountable for your political choices.”
The deputy based his claim on the competence of the AKP government since Islam asks people to transfer power to those who are qualified for the job.
Similar remarks by Islamist AKPs are often made during election campaigns in Turkey. The country will held local elections on March 31.
