THREE more people have been jailed in Iranian Kurdistan on charges of membership of opposition parties, rights groups reported today, as oppression in the region intensifies.

Environmental activist Faranak Jamshidi, who is a member of the Green Kurdistan Society, has been sentenced to four years in prison, accused of “membership in one of the Kurdish opposition parties,” the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KMMK) reported.

She was detained in a raid on her home in Sandaj last year but released on bail. Ms Jamshidi has been subjected to numerous threats and was summoned a number of times in 2018 during mass arrests of environmental activists.

And the Hengaw Organisation for Human Rights has reported that two men from Urmia, Hashem Moradi and Ismail Mohammadpou, have been sentenced to five years in prison on charges of collaborating with and membership in the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran.

At least 205 political and civil activists, journalists and environmentalists have been detained without court orders or subjected to beatings and torture since the beginning of 2020, according to the KMMK. And more than 100 Kurdish activists have been detained so far this year, prompting calls for their release and a social-media campaign: #Free100KurdishActivists.
