Turkish sports club Fenerbahce was punished by UEFA over pro-Putin chants of the fans in a UEFA Champions League qualifier game played against Ukraine’s Dynamo Kiev.
The Fenerbahce fans had cheered for Russian President Vladimir Putin after Dynamo Kiev midfielder Vitaliy Buyalskyi put his team 1-0 ahead in the game on 27 July.
UEFA announced on Friday that Fenerbahce will be required to play one game partially without spectators because of the chants, while it also issued a fine of 50,000 Euros.
The chair of Fenerbahce SC, Ali Koc, had said 30 July that they will not apologize for the pro-Putin chants, and that expecting an apology from Fenerbahce is an insult to the club.
Fenerbahce was eliminated by Dynamo Kiev with the result 1-2 in the game on 27 July.
