Speaking in a group meeting of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), the party’s co-chair Mithat Sancar commented on the “Alevi djemevi and culture directorate” that Turkish President Recep Tayyp Erdogan recently said would be established.
Pointing out that the political administration has been ignoring the demands of Alevis for years, Sancar criticized Erdogan’s latest statements, saying that such a move will signify “appointing a trustee to the Alevis.”
“He does not take Alevis’ demand for equal citizenship into account. Now he is trying to appoint trustees to the institutions that Alevis had established through great efforts,” Sancar said.
He also criticized the administration’s policy of war and violence targeting Kurds, and said: The solution to the Kurdish question may be through negotiation and consensus on a political ground.”
Sancar expressed protest against the police violence that HDP deputy Habip Eksik was subjected to during a protest on Sunday. he said:
“The brutal attack on our friend Habip Eksik and our other deputy constitutes an insult to the will of the Kurdish people and is an indication of the fear felt in the face of the Kurdish people’s struggle. No attack has ever frightened us, however. [No attack] could weaken our persistence, determination and struggle. Every attack is a sign of helplessness, and shows that they are getting more and more corrupt.”
