A young man was killed by the police, allegedly because he did not comply with the police’s warning to stop, in Turkey’s Kurdish-majority city of Midyat on Thursday.
The incident occurred in Midyat’s live animal market where the police shouted at 21-year-old Adem Kara and ordered him to stop for some unknown reason.
Kara allegedly did not comply and tried to run away and was shot by the police. The severely injured man was taken to a hospital in the city of Mardin for treatment. He later died in the hospital.
Kara’s parents told Mezopotamya News Agency that their son was recently released from prison and that he might have been terrified and tried to run away when he heard the police shout at him. They said that a thorough investigation into the incident should be launched.
