A doctor and three male nurses were detained in the southeastern Turkish province of Şırnak on Friday for offering treatment to Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists who were injured during clashes with Turkish security forces, Turkish media reports said.
The medics treated the PKK militants at the private hospital where they worked at the time. The PKK militants were injured in clashes with security forces in 2015 and 2016, when the PKK shifted to towns, setting up barricades and digging trenches to keep the security forces away.
The investigation into the medical staff is being conducted by the Cizre Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and the US, the PKK has been waging a bloody war in Turkey’s Southeast since 1984.
