On Tuesday, the Russian news agency TASS reported that Russia and Turkey have signed a deal for the shipments of the second batch of S-400 systems.
The head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, Dmitry Shugayev said that the agreement has been signed and some components of the S-400 will be produced in Turkey.
In a press briefing, the US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that it was crucial for all countries to avoid transactions with the Russian defense industry now more than ever, because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Price did not comment on whether Russia’s S-400 delivery to Turkey would change the Biden administration’s plans to reconsider the sale of F-16 aircraft to Turkey.
In 2017, Turkey purchased S-400 air defense systems from Russia, becoming the first NATO country to do so. Turkey’s decision led to negative reactions from the United States and Turkey was excluded from Washington’s F-35 program.
A Turkish defense official who did not wish to be named denied the TASS report and mentioned that there are no new agreements with Russia.
